Host Of The Party Primed For 2013 Darwin Cup

August 5th, 2013

Trainer Stephen Brown is hoping to win today’s Darwin Cup with Host Of The Party.

The four-year-old is second favourite to win the 2013 Darwin Cup at at odds of $6.

Host Of The Party has won four of his 10 race starts and has earned more than $167,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

The Host gelding has already won both the Darwin Guineas and the NT Derby this campaign and will be out to secure the Triple Crown of Northern Territory racing in the 2013 Darwin Cup.

Two previous horses, Brinney and Ventilago, have won the Triple Crown and Brown is hopeful Host Of The Party can join their elusive club.

“The two horses that won the Triple Crown were very good horses – they had strong form when they arrived,” Brown told NT News.

“I’m doubtful if he is in that same category because he won a maiden and Rating 62 in Victoria before he arrived, but stranger things have happened.

“He was very immature when he got here and has grown heaps.”

Brown found Host Of The Party’s latest run in the NT Derby very promising.

“There were only good things to come out of the Derby,” he said.

“He’s a dead set 2000m horse and is going to have no problem with the distance.

“It is hard to get a line where the three-year-olds (now four) stand in the Darwin Cup, but they normally run a good race.

“He’s drawn barrier two and he should be right there.

“Dwayne Dunn is coming up to ride him.”
