Lightinthenite ($3.60) has returned racing in slick form this time and has maintained status as outright favourite in 2015 Darwin Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au as a result, ahead of Whistle Stop ($6) and Royal Request ($6.50).

Will Lightinthenite justify favouritism and win the 2015 Darwin Cup or will one of his many talented rivals find the line in the clear?

Lightinthenite ($3.60)

Lightinthenite has posted an impressive seven wins and six minors through 32 career starts so far and will be partnered by leading hoop Hugh Bowman in the 2015 Darwin Cup. Unable to produce much of a consistent run of form for Jarrod Mclean through the 2014 spring, the son of Galileo performed well in a pair of Darwin barrier trials prior to his return for Gary Clarke, and will carry winning form into the 2015 Darwin Cup after taking out the Chief Minister’s Cup (1600m) on July 11th.

Royal Request ($6.50)

One of three chances for Kyneton-based trainer Neil Dyer, Royal Request will need some luck in running from barrier 11 but has been charged with carrying only 54kgs and is more than worth consideration for a 2015 Darwin Cup bet at current odds. Claiming five wins and four minors through 26 career starts, the Bel Esprit gelding will be seeking a second-consecutive win on Monday after taking out the Special Conditions Handicap (1600m) with 61.5kgs on July 15th.

The Ruffian ($10)

The Ruffian was unable to make anything of an impact in the Chief Minster’s Cup first-up, but is sure to have taken valuable condition from the run and will carry only 54kgs in the 2015 Darwin Cup. Having returned to the paddock after a credible seventh in the talent-rich Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) in March, the son of Lonhro could very well receive the run of the race from barrier 7 and will carry a very manageable 54.5kgs.
